Excellent Watch

A new dimension to outdoor living.
Ask any outdoor enthusiast what manufacturer they'd trust when it comes to precision instruments and the answer would probably be Suunto. Their slogan is "Replacing Luck" and that's very true when you see how accurate their instruments are. Case in point: I recently bought the Suunto X3HR and went hiking up a mountain with a few friends. We reached the summit and hiked to the trig beacon to get an "accurate" indication of how high we were. The X3Hr was spot on (to the metre) while the GPS unit we carried was out by quite a few (and there wasn't a big tree above us or cloudy conditions to affect the GPS signal). Apart from the accuracy of the altimeter, what makes this watch even more useful is the fact that it has a heart-rate monitor, barometer and thermometer. That's in addition to the obvious functions like stop-watch, back-light, etc. If you enjoy spending time outdoors and want to get the most out of it, I'd highly recommend this watch. It takes a little while to get the hang of the functions, but once you do it really opens up a wealth of knowledge as to your performance.
For myself the watch has almost everything I need. When I'm training for runs the heart-rate monitor is incredibly handy and I didn't realise how much it can be an asset to measuring performance. The watch will show you your max heart-rate over the run, the average heart-rate, and the highest altitude you reached. The only drawbacks are that if you want to measure your split times over a long run, the 10-split memory isn't really enough and if you're not yet used to the watch buttons you might press the wrong one and comprimise the data you've gathered. But for the price you'd pay for the X3HR, you'd be hard pressed to find another make of watch that can do the same things. If you are looking at something more advanced, the X6HR might be worth looking into. I was sorely tempted to go for that model when I tried it out in the shop. Self control sucks sometimes. ... Casio G Shock Rocks
Step aside Inspector Gadget - This watch takes the cake. From the advanced atomic calibration, to the fantastic solar charging, battery free operation. This watch is great. As for the overall style, and feel, it is typical G shock durable bulletproof construction. It is, however, significantly LIGHTER in weight than most predecessors. The band is typically large for ful lsized wrists. I truly cannot say one negative thing about it, except, the atomic calibration must occur with certain conditions, facing a window, outdoors, not near a building/train/etc. Doing a calibration every now and then will be just fine. Other than this, it is great. And, hey, I ain't Big Ben. Oh, and one more thing, this watch being solar must be exposed to the sun or light to charge. You can't have it hide under your sleeve or jacket-it won't charge. To top it, it doesnt require much sun or light to charge anyway.

Disappointed: nice features, but not sturdy
The easy-to-set alarm deserves high praise. Just turn the bezel (the rotating ring around the face) and easily set the alarm to go off within a one-hour or 12-hour timeframe. I wish other manufacturers offered something similar, because I've lost confidence in Timex quality. Within a year of owning the watch, the bezel fell off after a minor bump. I was able to snap it back on, but it no longer turned smoothly and the bezel began to fall off on a regular basis. Eventually it fell off without my noticing and was lost. Since others appear to have had the same experience, I cannot recommend the watch.

Good watch
I've had this watch three years. This watch is practical and it works well. It's accurate. It has an easy to use alarm system.The back light is a good feature. Things I would like to see are easier to read minute markings and date window.

Must've got a good one
Just wanted to say that I've had this model for five years, and gone through three watch bands. The worksmanship has been fine for me (I've never even changed the battery). My only complaint is that the alarm function seems to be wearing out--I have to set the alarm to 6:34, instead of 6:30 due to the wear and tear over the years. It's waterproof and fairly scratch resisitant. I say take the other reviews with a grain of salt (mine too) and good luck.

Good features, good-looking watch, but BAD worksmanship
Ibought this watch about 4 years back from Service Merchandise. The alarm button fell off within three weeks! I've never worn this watch after that, since the outlet I bought it from told me the only way to repair it would be to ship it back to Timex, and I just didn't feel it worthwhile to incur the time and cost of packing and shipping it and then dealing with customer service; however, since everything else was working I've used it ever since as a little desk watch.
