Beautiful watch
I bought this watch because it looks good.But when I got it on my wrist, WOW!It's spectacularly light and each of the tick marks actually has two sections on it, this means each of them shimmers as you move the watch!Additionally, this is the first non-lit watch that I can actually read with NO light.The effect of the luminescence lasted about an hour and a half.I have about three more watches that claim to be visible after the lights go off, but this is the FIRST to actually make good on that claim.I just wish I had waited a couple of weeks to buy it, I could have saved about thirty dollars. ... Lots of "Bells and Whistles" for the Money
This watch is a techie's dream. You'll have hours of fun punching all the data into it. I like the scrolling feature of the data stream. The auto-illumination feature is nice but the "on time" is much too short for my taste. I do understand they are conserving battery life however. The feature I like the most is the five programmable alarms. You can even put an eight character memo on each alarm. I do not like the resin band. I think there is a model with a metal band for a few bucks more. Overall: Great value for such a high tech watch!

Nice Features, But No Alaska-Hawaii Time ZoneOr USB Input
Judging from reading the .pdf manual download, this product appears to be a mostly easy-to-use wrist data center.

The USA has had 5 time zones since the mid-1900's. (The Alaska/Hawaii AT Zone is one hour earlier than Pacific Time.)This CASIO model displays onlyET, CT, MT and PT, a drawback to those who live, work or commute to either of the other two states.

A makeshift workaround for some functions can probably be made by choosing ANCHORAGE from among the Foreign Cities code list, not going to sit well with Honolulu.

Also, please note there is no USB or other download/upload option on this Casio model.ALL data must be hand-entered a character at a time by cycling through several characters on each of 10 miniature keys. For fewer features, but instant USB computerized input, a Microsoft-Timex Data-Link model may be preferable if frequent data changes are expected.

Yet another databank
I've owned 4 models in this Casio series as far back as ~ 1983.

The best model of the databank series, rating a 4/5, was the mid-1990s release with a mini-bulb for lighting and a silk screened keyboard ... it rated 4/5 because it was a real stainless steel case, the keyboard remained readable for its lifetime, it was easy to clean and it only died because I lost it.Both the strap and watch case lasted over 5 years, the LCD was more readable than the newer releases.It was not perfect though, because the light ate batteries and memory was not FLASH or eeprom memory ... you lost everything during a battery change.

Avoid the resin watch straps, they always break when you least expect it, whether its from Casio or others.Woven nylon with velcro bands can be bought at sports shops and are more durable.The cases for the 2000 models were all resin, the 'steel' ones were simply painted atop resin ... and I've lost 2 watches when the hole in the resin that holds the strap pins breaks, the watch case is useless.


Since the earliest model new features are major improvements but prior features were removed, made come backs, or are removed again!I'm writing this detailed review in the hopes Casio will finally get a databank we can all rave about.

Navigation has rarely been a problem.In the older models, a beep in watch mode is different from others, so one can cycle through modes without looking at the screen.Keep the old mode, but GIVE A DISTINCT beep or sound as one enters a new mode as an option.

The background lumination went from a tiny power hungry micro-bulb to an ELD display, much more pleasing and power saving.This is a super plus.Please allow it to say ON as once cycles through MODES.

Make the numbers on the TIME, DAY and DATE readout HUGE and viewed by default.We don't need a year readout, that can be a shift- or scroll button item.The DB37H-1AV screen is ideal, just add a keyboard.

Make a calendar function.

The silk screen or painted numbers on the resin casing always fade with time.Silk screen flat keypads weren't as easy to use as raised keypads, but they kept their labels longer.Make a version with all raised or embossed labels that can be identified by touch.

The screw-on battery case is a dream, batteries can be user serviced.For a watch of this price, its not practical to have it serviced by a watch technician, it can be 25-50% of the cost of the watch!

Keep the password feature for all data and telememo.

The perpetual Schedule mode .. and multiple schedule memos is a key function I use, and the super compact 1 week look ahead schedule view on the LCD is great.I can keep anniversaries, birthday, holidays etc., in the watch and get an entire week's preview of upcoming events. This mode was removed in this watch, hence the 3 Star rating.

While a palmtop serves better than the DB, its easier and more convenient to just carry a watch, and actually serves as a more reliable backup for palmtops with ultra-crucial names, numbers and data, thanks to its low power consumption and non-volatile memory.If there is a way to upload schedules to a DB without loosing the current total amount of memory or the watches other features as other models have, it would be a plus.

Finally, as a watch it keeps excellent time.It really does keep to near +30 sec a month, usually moving slightly faster.This is referenced against US Standard time using the atomic clock time by NIST.gov

Glad I got it
I was initially put off by the review that said this was an over-ambitious watch.I'm glad I read the next, and went to the owner's manual online at Amazon.I've had this watch for a few weeks and like it a lot.It's readable, the basic features are easy enough to use, and it has what I want: alarm, stopwatch, timer, calculator, databank.Oh, and a timekeeper!The light is bright enough, the numbers easy to read.Good watch for the money.

Plastic band often breaks

Great watch for low price
First, about the delivery. I placed my ordered on Thursday night, and even though I selected the slowest method of delivery, I already had it by Monday morning !
I bought this watch as a temporary cheep replacement for an expensive Swiss watch that needed some repair time. Now that I have this Casio, I might just put the other watch in a safe place, and use it only for special occasions.
This watch deliver everything that is promissed. Personally, I would like a watch that is all metal, while this one has some plastic parts in the case, but that required buying a more expensive model.
The display is clear and large enough (for me at least), the band is comfortable and so far reliable. It hasn't broken or opened, even after few hours of hard work at the back yard.
I find it relatively easy to operate the many functions it has, once one undestand the logic behind it. I will never use all the functions (three alarms - one is enough for me, 30 page database - my cell phone has more, and is easier to operate), and I believe that some of them are only selling gimmicks. However, nothing can beat the main advantage of this watch - it's price. I went to several department stores and checked their cheep watches, and yes, I could get watches for as low as $9, but non of them looked as nice and had both the alarm and countdown timer, which are important to me.
The only drawback I can find, and even that is only esthetic, is the ilumination, which is an old type lightbulb, not the cool blue light.
I would not pay $100 for this watch, but at $20 it is an excelent buy. ... Read more

Works as advertised
The watch works as advertised.This watch is useful for someone that is interested in seeing detailed graphs of their heart rate activity during exercise.

I was skeptical of the software and EPOC readings, but after a few weeks with it, I'm impressed.The EPOC readings and the software are eeriely reasonable.In addition, the transmitter belt/watch interface is much better than Polar's.

Great watch, but one problem
I recieved this watch as a gift about 5 months ago and I really like it.As a person with hairy arms I was looking for a nice watch that doesnt pull my hair out, which I find incredibly annoying.The titanium mesh band on this watch does a great job of of not catching those hairs.All of the finish and materials have held up well to the daily abuse that I give it.

The only real problem I have with my watch is that it is incredibly loud.In relative silence I can hear it from 6-8 feet away and, if I think about it, I can hear it while watching TV.Although this isnt really a problem for me my girlfriend found it akin to something out of a Edgar Allen Poe story...a relentless ticking that drove her crazy.There is a possibility that its just my watch because its somehow defective.

Buy it somewhere else
This is a great watch.I hate all of the large, heavy watches made for men.This one is a nice slim watch that doesn't get cought on shirt sleaves or feel like an arm iron.It looks good for casual or formal wear.

I am disappointed with Amazon's price.It's not exceptionally good.The ripoff store at the mall has it for the same price, and after reading Jeff Bezos' introduction letter talking about how most jewelry stores have such high markups, I expected it to be less.Shop around online, I have seen it for 30% less.That more than covers the free shipping promo.

Skagen rocks - great styling, great service
I owned a Skagen for years, fairly similar to this one, originally bought at a retail store, perhaps 10 years or more back. (Sorry Amazon, before your time.) Got lots and lots of compliments on it - pretty much the only fashion item I've ever been complimented on.

After really quite a lot of abuse over the years, I finally cracked the crystal. Probably the 20'th direct shot it had taken, so clearly my own fault. I checked the Skagen website for repair work and they have a very clear policy and reasonable price schedule for crystal repairs, case replacement, new band, new works, etc.

After checking around, they said my watch was too far out of date to be repaired, but they offered to let me pick anything from their current online catalog for the cost of the repair (if parts had been available). So for $30 - the cost of a new crystal and case - the watch in this listing is the one I chose.

I like this watch very much and again get compliments on it all the time. And obviously Skagen earned themselves a loyal customer with their more-than-reasonable warranty service. I'm happy to recommend them.

Excellent watch
I recieved this watch as a gift. It actually replaced a previous model Skagen titanium watch that I wore everyday for 3 years. I very much like the understated clean design this watch has. It would look good whether you were wearing a suit or wearing jeans and a tee shirt. The mesh band is comfortable and the clasp is very secure.
