2-0 out of 5 stars Worked great til it fell apart
I bought this watch in blue a year or so ago, and almost immediately the paint on the plastic around the face started to wear off.Today, the 2 plastic pieces around the face just fell off.It looks like the glue gave out.My last Timex is still running and in good shape at 10 years old, so this one was a real disappointment. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great Watch
One of the things that I like best about this watch is the fact that it is not this massive bulk of plastic on my wrist. It is still kind of plastic looking, but it is thinner than any other atomic watches that I was looking at. The wrist band is just a strip of velcro but I actually like it better than my old leather band because I work on a computer and my old band did not flex very well. The one thing that did concern me was that one time I accidently changed the time while working on my car (the buttons got pushed in by accident). For the next several days it would never re-sync no matter what I would do. I manually reset it to within 30 seconds of my wall atomic clock so it was not a big deal... the watch still keeps good time, but the principle of having a atomic watch bothered me. It had always re-synced every night even though I lived in a basement apartment! During the week that it didn't re-sync, I tried everything from putting in on top of my wall atomic clock to leaving it on a window sill facing west towards CO. I finally gave up and was about to call Timex when one night, in the basement, sitting on my dresser, the watch re-synced and has been ever since. I am not sure why it didn't re-sync for a week or why it suddenly started; but the point is that it doesn't need to re-sync every single night. Just be patient.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good watch for the price
I was looking for an inexpensive watch that sets itself via US Atomic Clock signal and found it in this watch.I love the indiglo light feature. The face does get scratched up a bit if you bang it against stuff.I like the cloth band with velcro.Being cloth, the band does absorb sweat so it will need to be washed with mild soap periodically. Not a bad watch at all.

4-0 out of 5 stars Set and forget watch that's accurate
I am looking for a set and forget watch. This Timex 1440 Atomic synced to the National Bureau of Standards in Ft. Collins, CO is one that keeps accurate time and has a calendar that remembers all the leap years, time zones with Daylight time, etc.I considered a Casio Atomic Solar but it was huge compared to a Timex.

I guess the ultimate would be the German made JungHans Atomic Solar but that's listed at $400 plus.

3-0 out of 5 stars Great watch but battery died too soon
I used it for about 10 months before the battery died. While it was working it was five stars - nice looks, feels good on your wrist and easy night glow button. I especially appreciated having the compass feature. I tested it in northern, southern hemispheres as well as right on the equator and it proved itself to be very accurate. What impressed me the most was that I didn't even have tocalibrate it as recommended.

What was not so nice was that after 10 month of intensive usage (including alarm and night light on to remind ourselves to feed the newlyborn) the battery gave out. We went in to two nearby jewellers to have the battery replaced. Helaas, they couldn't do it because the battery replacement process was too hard. I listed it on eBay for parts then.

4-0 out of 5 stars a cool compass watch
The digital compass: the digital compss is functioning well and very useful for me since I easily lost direction. it's especially useful when I need to know which direction a window is facing in new houses. the calibration needs some efforts since it has to be done in outdoor and you need to keep the watch level and rotate it twice.

The disadvantage of the compass: you have to push the heading button to show the direction, and if you change direction, you need to push it again to show the new direction. the direction is not automatically updated when you change direction, therefore you cannot use it when driving. also you have to keep the face of the watch level when you use the compass, otherwise the direction is not correct. any way I still like the digital compass very much. also it has a cool compass dial which you can rotate so that you can know all directions.

Other functions: the stop watch, timer and alarm function is fine.

The display is clear at day time, even under direct light. In the darkness it is also clear by using the indiglo light.

The appearance: the brown and green color of the wrist band feels a little out-dated but it's ok. the watch itself is a little too large.

In a summary, it's a cool compass watch.

4-0 out of 5 stars Grate product
The watch is grate. The only thing I am confuised about is the compuss but if you know how to use it ,it works grate

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT WATCH FOR THE PRICE!
This Timex watch is great.I have used it for several months now.I don't seem to think the display is light.I use this watch at school most of the time.It also works well in water. It doesn't seem that you have to push hard for the indiglo to work at all; it seems fine.Timex has always stood up to their slogan, It takes a Licking and Keeps on Ticking.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Watch but could have been better
Received this watch a about a week back. Here is what I feel so far:
Compass: After initial calibration, the compass works great. Its really easy & fun to use.
Display: Display is not that bright without the Indiglo light. So in low light conditions or with indoor lighting you may have trouble seeing it.
Indiglo light: Works great at night, when you press the light button hard enough. There is a night time mode as well, where it will light up using any button. The night time mode only lasts for 7 hours. After that it goes back to day time mode. I wish there was some way to keep the night time mode on all the time.
Stop Watch/Timers: Stop Watch and Timer works great. You can start and stop various laps, though I don't have much use for it.
Overall:
Great watch for the price. The Display needs to be a little brighter. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars One touch countdown timer
I have continued to buy this particular watch for it's countdown feature and have owned at least 10 in the last 20 years, and have purchased it for gifts. I bought a Timex once with this feature but the setting was not as easy as this one touch. I use the countdown on a daily basis as a reminder for many things.I would truly be at a loss if Casio quit making this particular watch. The price at under $24.95 has always made this watch an outstanding value.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for Moms!!!
I have had several of these watches and they are the greatest. My favorite feature is the countdown timer. It is the easiest to use and useful for so many things.Under the Casio name are small numbers 1,3,5,10,15,20,30.To set it you push the top right button once for each (i.e. once for 1 minute, twice for 3 minutes, etc.,,and to cancel it just push once more when it is set on 30).I use it to challenge my kids (and myself) to stay on a task, and also to remind me to check up on them.Great for Attention deficit problems. The hourly chime and alarm and stopwatch features are also great.Hourly to remind to check in with God or whatever.Alarm to remember afternoon medication.Stopwatch to know how long you've been on a task or exercising, etc.The kids often ask me to set my countdown timer for them.I don't even have to look at it to set it.I just remember the #'s and think 1,3,5,10,15,20,30 as I hear the beeps when I push the button. The watch is small and comfortable and I wear it everywhere.Nice that it is water resistant too, no worries doing dishes or washing the car, but I wouldn't recommend swimming with it on.One caution is when you get the battery replaced (and that won't be often because it lasts a long time), make sure the tech knows the AM/PM of the alarm might reverse, and don't leave until you're sure it's right (Set it for a couple minutes past your current time and see if it goes off, if not it is reversed).Maybe the battery has to be put in and taken out and put in again to set it right. I don't know but twice I had that problem when I had a new battery put in.I love this watch though.Great price too.Highly recommended! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Lots of "Bells and Whistles" for the Money
This watch is a techie's dream. You'll have hours of fun punching all the data into it. I like the scrolling feature of the data stream. The auto-illumination feature is nice but the "on time" is much too short for my taste. I do understand they are conserving battery life however. The feature I like the most is the five programmable alarms. You can even put an eight character memo on each alarm. I do not like the resin band. I think there is a model with a metal band for a few bucks more. Overall: Great value for such a high tech watch!

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice Features, But No Alaska-Hawaii Time ZoneOr USB Input
Judging from reading the .pdf manual download, this product appears to be a mostly easy-to-use wrist data center.

The USA has had 5 time zones since the mid-1900's. (The Alaska/Hawaii AT Zone is one hour earlier than Pacific Time.)This CASIO model displays onlyET, CT, MT and PT, a drawback to those who live, work or commute to either of the other two states.

A makeshift workaround for some functions can probably be made by choosing ANCHORAGE from among the Foreign Cities code list, not going to sit well with Honolulu.

Also, please note there is no USB or other download/upload option on this Casio model.ALL data must be hand-entered a character at a time by cycling through several characters on each of 10 miniature keys. For fewer features, but instant USB computerized input, a Microsoft-Timex Data-Link model may be preferable if frequent data changes are expected.

3-0 out of 5 stars Yet another databank
I've owned 4 models in this Casio series as far back as ~ 1983.

The best model of the databank series, rating a 4/5, was the mid-1990s release with a mini-bulb for lighting and a silk screened keyboard ... it rated 4/5 because it was a real stainless steel case, the keyboard remained readable for its lifetime, it was easy to clean and it only died because I lost it.Both the strap and watch case lasted over 5 years, the LCD was more readable than the newer releases. It was not perfect though, because the light ate batteries and memory was not FLASH or eeprom memory ... you lost everything during a battery change.

Avoid the resin watch straps, they always break when you least expect it, whether its from Casio or others.Woven nylon with velcro bands can be bought at sports shops and are more durable. The cases for the 2000 models were all resin, the 'steel' ones were simply painted atop resin ... and I've lost 2 watches when the hole in the resin that holds the strap pins breaks, the watch case is useless.

Since the earliest model new features are major improvements but prior features were removed, made come backs, or are removed again!I'm writing this detailed review in the hopes Casio will finally get a databank we can all rave about.

Navigation has rarely been a problem. In the older models, a beep in watch mode is different from others, so one can cycle through modes without looking at the screen.Keep the old mode, but GIVE A DISTINCT beep or sound as one enters a new mode as an option.

The background lumination went from a tiny power hungry micro-bulb to an ELD display, much more pleasing and power saving. This is a super plus. Please allow it to say ON as once cycles through MODES.

Make the numbers on the TIME, DAY and DATE readout HUGE and viewed by default. We don't need a year readout, that can be a shift- or scroll button item. The DB37H-1AV screen is ideal, just add a keyboard.

Make a calendar function.

The silk screen or painted numbers on the resin casing always fade with time.Silk screen flat keypads weren't as easy to use as raised keypads, but they kept their labels longer.Make a version with all raised or embossed labels that can be identified by touch.

The screw-on battery case is a dream, batteries can be user serviced. For a watch of this price, its not practical to have it serviced by a watch technician, it can be 25-50% of the cost of the watch!

Keep the password feature for all data and telememo.

The perpetual Schedule mode .. and multiple schedule memos is a key function I use, and the super compact 1 week look ahead schedule view on the LCD is great.I can keep anniversaries, birthday, holidays etc., in the watch and get an entire week's preview of upcoming events. This mode was removed in this watch, hence the 3 Star rating.

While a palmtop serves better than the DB, its easier and more convenient to just carry a watch, and actually serves as a more reliable backup for palmtops with ultra-crucial names, numbers and data, thanks to its low power consumption and non-volatile memory. If there is a way to upload schedules to a DB without loosing the current total amount of memory or the watches other features as other models have, it would be a plus.

Finally, as a watch it keeps excellent time.It really does keep to near +30 sec a month, usually moving slightly faster. This is referenced against US Standard time using the atomic clock time by NIST.gov

4-0 out of 5 stars Glad I got it
I was initially put off by the review that said this was an over-ambitious watch.I'm glad I read the next, and went to the owner's manual online at Amazon.I've had this watch for a few weeks and like it a lot. It's readable, the basic features are easy enough to use, and it has what I want: alarm, stopwatch, timer, calculator, databank.Oh, and a timekeeper! The light is bright enough, the numbers easy to read.Good watch for the money.

2-0 out of 5 stars Plastic band often breaks
I've had two Casio watches and I am always having problems with the plastic band.It would break right where the band is connected to the watch.Does anyone know if the metal bands are any better?I am really tired of buying Casio watches if their plastic bands are always going to break, usually within 2 years of use. It's a good watch and I like the features but I think the product is poorly made. ... Finally, after years of running, Timex has made a beautiful women'swatch. I got it in the mail today, and it's beautiful! It has the same great Timex quality, same features as my former running watches, but it actually looks like a woman's watch, not a small, man's watch.I'm so happy with it, that I can't stop looking at my wrist. It's a pretty shade of pink, and matches all my pink clothes. Also, Chelsea Watch got this shipped to me 5 days earlier than I expected it. 5-0 out of 5 stars The right choice
It was a choice between this Timex 1440 Sports Telebank Calculator and the Casio 150-Page Databank. The Timex won based on the silver resin case design and the all-day-white reflector display.

...and I made the right choice. The display really is clear and bright, just as shown in the pic above.

The 1440 performs as I had hoped. The text above says it displays "up to 14 characters", it does'nt. In memo mode it displays 20 letter/digits on the bottom row plus 10 digits on the top row and 10 digits on the middle row. Enough for an email address, phone and fax or other info. The text scrolls to view all 20 characters on the bottom row.

The schedule mode allows 20 characters on the bottom row only plus year, month, day, time etc. Again the text on the bottom scrolls to display all 20 characters. When schedule time arrives a chime rings and displays the scheduled event.

The difference between the alarm and schedule modes are; the alarm mode will ring till you press any button to turn off alarm. Plus alarm mode is for use within a 24 hour period and has no text, but you have four different alarms. I have one alarm set to pick up my children during the week and simply press the forward button to turn alarm off on weekends but retain the time for Monday. In schedule mode, I can create a schedule to go to the theather next month and remind myself to pick up the tickets a week before.

Thought I would never use the world time mode till I sat down yesterday to watch the Austrailan Open. Clicked the forward button a few times and now I know what time it is in SYD.

The calculator mode is really why I purchased this watch. I need simple math quickly and it does it without me having to look for the desk calculator. All the math functions are one touch buttons.

Oh yeh, when you put your schedules in, the watch beeps every two hours after 12am to remind you of upcoming events for that day. It beeps and displays the schedules or events.

I had a Marathon watch and this 1440 is much easier to set or program. With the forward/reverse buttons on the right side every function can be incremented with the forward/reverse buttons. For example; if I type in the letter "M" but wanted to type in "O" I press forward 2 times. Or wanted to type in "8", simply press a few more times. No need to go back to correct.

That's the good stuff and Timex has done a wonderfull job on this watch. Now, if the watch included a count down timer, stop watch and percent (%) key, this watch would have been above my expections, but I will not trade it in any time soon.

The 1440 looks great, is comfortable to wear and has 90% of the functions needed most. Do I need a count down timer? I used it rarely on the Marathon watch so I guess not.

The schedule and telebank (or memo mode) and ability to add and edit 40 characters of text (in memo mode) is a blessing, believe me.

This is a great watch for any practical person looking make the best out of a $60.00 time piece investment.

and , it looks GREAT

5-0 out of 5 stars Great, Wonderful, Watch!
Love it... does everything I need it to, and nothing I don't.

Hasn't scratched up like my other watches, so that's wonderful. It's also VERY water resistant (like it's made to be).I can dump the whole thing in a jug of water, leave it in for 5 minutes, take it out and shake it off, and it'll be dry.

5-0 out of 5 stars how come this is not the most famous watch in the world?
this is the best watch. it is powerful yet simple. i wonder why there are no gadget websites that mention it. i guess geeks don't appreciate simplicity. i have suffered enough with pda's and their stupid compatibility with PCs. but this watch is different. It's the best in its class and kind. Thank you Timex for making it!

5-0 out of 5 stars APPiontments & Medication Times
GREAT watch, easy to use! I keep my appointments and my medications with times(7 a day for heart valve)and it works great. You can do almost everthing on the computer and down load it to the watch. Don't wait buy it here!! I searched for two weeks and couldn't beat the service and the price! Also Timex said to down load the software from their site to get the last version. I did and that was easy to install to(even before I got the watch to see what it was like).

5-0 out of 5 stars For Tech & some Sports Functionality - Look no further!
I have used serveral databank type watches since they first came out. This is by far the best technology watch on the market today if you are looking for something that can hold all kinds of info such as phone numbers, IDs, email addresses, alarms, appointments, as well as some sports info such as lap or workout times. The watch buttons are easy to use and Timex did a great job of using the crown to provide speedy access to features and info on this watch!

For sports functionality it's pretty good as far as workout timers, countdown & stopwatch functionality. But this doesn't do heart rate, BP or other advanced medical stuff, nor does it have a outdoorsman type things like a compass or GPS (but those types of watches cost way more than this watch & won't store data like this one).

I need to keep around all kinds of info with me (much more than I can usually remember - especially since people seem to switch email and cell phones right about the time I finally memorize them). I've searched & waited for a watch which you could program (easly) through your computer and this is it! In the past I've used watches where you have to enter all the info using the buttons on the watch (extremely tedius). Since this connects to your computer via a USB cable, you can suck all kinds of contact, and calendar/appt info from Outlook or other apps right into your watch. A HUGE time saver and you can keep them in sync (e.g. if a phone number changes - change it in Outlook then resync automatically with the watch the next time you hook it up - very similar to using a PDA). If the battery ever runs out you don't have re-enter everything - just replace the battery and re-sync! If you don't use Outlook or other PC software like it, you can also just use the Timex software to enter and preserve the info you want to keep on your watch.

You can control everything through the software such as display options, beep/alarm options, and you can even password protect your contact info in case you are prone to losing things!
This watch is also expandable and programmable so geeks (such as myself) can write new little apps that run on the watch. There are apps you can download to store golf scores, calorie counters, training software, etc.

This watch also works with something called iCal where you can download all kinds of calendar events to your watch (US holidays, football team schedules, movie release dates, etc. - you name it, there's an iCal calendar for it - all easy to get to on the internet). Timex has links to all this software and iCal stuff on their site: www.timex.com/datalink/software/

And all this in an average (but good) looking sports watch, not some giant geekville watch. I used to carry aound my Palm PDA to have access to all this info, but that was too bulky & I'd forget it at home some days - now it all fits on my wrist - it's 100m water resistent too so I even keep it on while swimming so I don't forget it somewhere. All I can say is thank you Timex (and the geeks who thought this product up and pushed it through to fruition - I'm sure it wasn't easy). ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars great watch, great customer service
The watch works great. My only issue with the watch is with the heart rate monitor. Sometimes it is kind of finicky if the strap for the monitor is not on just right it won't take a signal. This is a minor problem though. I have read that other users have had problems using the watch under the cover of trees. I have not had this problem. I run in a park and the signal from the satelite is fine and the accuracy is not affected in any noticable amount.

The thing that I was most impressed with was the customer service from Timex. They were very helpful when I needed a replacement part for the watch when I lost a component.

I really love this watch. Its a great training tool to determine the distance that you are running and the amount of strain you are putting on your heart. I strongly recommend this for the serious runner.

1-0 out of 5 stars Do Not Buy: I Lost My Money On This
I used this after getting it for Christmas, from a web dealer. After it worked fairly well a few weeks, it stopped. The distance tracker stopped, as did the heart rate monitor.

I had to stop the credit card charge to get an exchange, and, the comments I got from Timex and the web dealer were both "This has never happened, we've never had problems with this product." Since they did not have my money, they gave me an exchange.

Guess what? The next one worked about two weeks, then stopped. Now I'm out $250 for what amounts to a Timex watch!

Simply try another product. Don't make the same mistake I did TWICE!! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Watch for under $50
I've had this watch for almost 3 years, and it's been an excellent watch. It illuminates blue in the dark and you can see everything! With the dual analog and digital time feature, it's also good for when I would travel between time zones. I'd always set the digital to the current time, and leave the analog where it was so I'd know what time it was at home. I've also never had to replace the battery. This time piece also has a feature where when you bend your arm to look at the watch, it automatically illuminates. Easy to set, easy to use, and all for under $50!! I highly recommend! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars best watch i've ever had
I've had this watch for at least five years.I went through through several wristbands until I found the speed-wrap that I have now. I've never had to change the batteries. It's all scuffed up, but the scuffs wear off and the face is completely readable.Since it is a bit worn looking, I sometimes consider getting a new one, but can't make myself, at least until the batteries wear out.

5-0 out of 5 stars Expedition beats the Competion!
This watch is not only practical, but fun to wear. Its velcro strap makes it easy to remove and its gadgets make it the ideal tool to track your workouts in the gym.Handy indiglo light too.Best of all, it will take the abuse of your evry day busy life and keep on ticking!A great choice! ...
