Marine gear looks great, made tough
This Marine Gear has become one of my favorite watches of all time. And take this from an enthousiastic collector who's tried out quite a few watches. If you're like me, you might like to alternate at times between analog and digital watches. I find myself using an analog watch about 60% of the time because they look great and it's easy to see how much time you've got left. On the other hand, digitals get about 40% of my wrist time, especially when I'm in a casual, sport, or technical mode.

Well, here's a watch that's the best of both worlds. With this Marine Gear, Casio has a real classic "diver" watch both in form and function.

In function, this watch has all the classical functions I like in in the digital line-up: stopwatch, alarm, hourly beep, and date. The digital time and dual time has come in handy, especially travelling. In fact, with the analog hands, you can have three time zones on your watch at once. Also, it is easy to synchronize the digital and analog seconds. In the analog department, the hand are the easy to see-at-a-glance oversized diver fashion. The hour markers are made to show up in the dark. My only disappointment is that the luminosity lasts only for an hour so in the dark; it won't get you through the night. But that's only a minor let-down.It's great in the water,though.Mine's been in the pool quite a few times and is just as great there as on dry land.

As to form, here's a real classic look in the world of water sport and divers watches. I've found that the hefty steel case, elapsed-time ring, canary yellow dial, and wide black divers strap make a really attractive and tough-looking wrist accessory that get lots of remarks like, "great watch!" from friends.

I first noticed this Marine Gear in about 1989 and immediatly thought, "Wow, gotta get this watch!"Even though that watch is still working fine after about 15 years, I got a couple of others too. In the mid-90's, Casio put out a models with black and white dials and steel band. I like them too, though I wear them with the the black divers bands which still seem readily available as replacements. However, after all, I think the Yellow dial model is still the coolest.

Take it from a watch junkie who thinks the bigger the better, if you're into the divers style in watches, you'll come to like the size and heft of this Casio and its tough indesructability and maybe come to think too that is one of the greatest of all time.

A superb casual watch
The basic Luminox watch is a superb day watch. Although I am on my second one in eight years, this may be a record, as I am not gentle with watchs. The first one's crystal cracked, but the second one is driving on like a champ.

Pro's-
The luminous stuff on the hands and face (tritium vials) is bright. I mean really, REALLY bright. None of this hold it under a light" silliness, but wake up at three thirty in the morning and have no trouble reading it.
The twelve o'clock tritium vial is orange not green, acting as an index point even in complete darkness. See remark about 0330 hrs.
The bezel can be turned reasonably easily, but won't turn by itself when you are not looking.
Accuracy is good.
Shock resistance, overall durability is very good (damage to my first watch was purely my fault and exceeded any reasonable expectation of survival).

Con's
The Navy SEAL propaganda can be mildly annoying.
The bezel is synthetic (plastic), and after two or three years of use starts to go smooth and the numbers start to wear off.
The luminous stuff on the hands and face (tritium vials) is bright. I mean really, REALLY bright. This con is a special case. If a service member wants to wear this watch in the field, one of those watchbands with the flap to cover the face is a REALLY good idea.
The synthetic strap isn't so good. I replace the watch band with a nylon/velcro one on the first day.
The little compass that comes with it is a wasted effort, get a Suunto watchband compass. Same size, superior in every way.

On the whole, a tremendous value for money, and when I abuse my current one beyond usefulness, I will certainly get another one.

Classic 80's, excellent value
Thin, comfortable watch. It has a "geek sheik retro" thing happening.

I bought it as an extra watch for wearing to the gym only. But have found myself wearing it nearly all the time.

Don't let the low price make you think this is a flimsy watch; it's not. This is a quality watch.

I personally like the loud 80's-like "beep" it gives when you press the buttons. It gives a similiar loud "beep-beep" on-the-hour if you set it to do that.

WatchZone was the seller, through Amazon.com, and for whatever reason they FedEx 2-day'd the watch to me for no extra charge. Your mileage may vary, but I was impressed.

Retro 80's Casio digital LCD watch is great value for a style of watch that is largly gone from digital range. The watch features a metal strap, stainless back plate, chromed resin case (which is really the only cheaper part), Stop Watch, 12/24hr, Alarm, Chime anda Night Light.
Probably the best aspect of the watch (besides price) is its compactness and clean design, unlike a lot of currant designs that are heavy and bulky, which easily get caught and damaged.

For geeks with style
This review is for the Citizen Skyhawk BlueAngel edition titanium watch, however, most of the comments are relevant to the entire Skyhawk series. I received this watch (Mar 2) days ago. So far I am very happy with it. I had a hard time deciding between the Blue Angel and the "regular" Skyhawk; I had an even harder time deciding between titanium and non-titanium. Below is a list of pros and cons of the watch(es) roughly in order of decreasing importance to me. However, I do want to make clear that I do love the watch, the pros WAY outweigh the cons.

Pro:
- Watch looks beautiful, though some may find it "too busy".
- Watch never needs batteries (solar charging) and even has power saving modes, which is fascinating for a techno-enviro-energy saving guy like me.
- I've always been a sucker for dual display (analog/digital) watches. As such, this watch has MANY useful functions: stopwatch (split/stop), countdown timer (1-99 minutes), many time zones (analog aligns with any time zone you want at the press ofbutton), 3 Alarms (in any time zone), calendar (with day of week, month, and year - never need to correct for leap year, month, or daylight savings), and slide rule calculator on the outer dial, of which I have more to say in the next bullet.
- I was born after the slide rule generation, so this is my first exposure to the concept. It is intriguing! This particular configuration (or two proportional dials) allows for multiplication and division to 2 significant figures (e.g. 120/43, or 0.18*1.4). This is plenty sufficient for calculating sale price, tax, tip, unit price in stores, car/air fuel economy, etc. And it sure beats wearing around what I call a "geek watch" - a calculator watch. I used to love the functionality of a calculator watch, but people were just embarrassed to be seen with me in them! :-) This watch is for geeks with style!
- Watchband is bracelet that does not open fully so it's easier to take on an off, and won't fall off onto the street if accidentally unlatched.
- Titanium is wonderfully lightweight in comparison to the steel!
- I slightly prefer the yellow and blue pattern on the slide rule, as opposed to the gray of the Skyhawk.
- I like the hour notches on the Blue Angel, as opposed to the large while numbers on the regular Skyhawk, which is somewhat awkward due to the non standard numerical sequence: 1,3,6,9,&11 as opposed to the more standard 12,3,6,9.


Con:
- Watchband replacement: The first link is part of the main watch (circle), therefore, only very specifically sized watchbands will fit if it needs to be replaced. If the line is discontinued, this may pose a problem.
- The hands and hour dots are not coated with a phosphor film, so the watch does not glow in the dark. I understand not having a light for the digital display (uses too much power?), but the watch should at least glow in the dark.
- To access a lot of the watch functions, the crown must be turned (and pulled out) a lot. I imagine that this part will be one of the first to fail after many uses (just my guess).
- Crystal curves out (convex) so it is more likely to make contact with other surfaces and thus be more easily scratched.
- Scratches show up more easily on blue dial (blue angel) rather than silver dial (skyhawk).
- Two of the 3 internal dials serve very little function, and seem to be more for form over function. Most people will not need a UTC dial or a 24 hour dial - when the digital display could show both of these times more accurately. It would have been better to have one of the dials be power level, and/or perhaps light level(?)
- The second link of the watchband does not lay flat, therefore the watch cannot be stored flat, but must always sit on its side.

A note on Titanium and scratching.
- Other users have commented that the scratches show up more on the finish on the titanium, rather than the steel. Here the Blue Angel is different from the Skyhwak. The titanium Skyhawk has the gray finish, wheras the Blue Angel titanium band looks quite similar to the steel (somewhat less shiny). If you do not abuse the watch, I think that the weight savings is worth it. I'll reserve final judgment on this after a year or so of normal wear.

Sophisticated and Stylish Timepiece
Great watch to use and (to be) look(ed) at -definitely NOT in the range of your typical K-Mart "special".Wonderful after-sales service too (the metal band broke once and Sears replaced the watch with no questions asked).Speaking of the metal watch band: consider the option of the (blue) leather wrist band (then you don't have to worry about all those wrist hairs pulled out one by one!).The only "down" side is that the watch is somewhat thick (bulky) but that may not be an issue for those who want to show off their exclusive Blue Angels Timepiece!

Great watch from a great seller

Nobody doubts the technology of the cronographs anyways. So, there is no point in pondering over the super perfect time that this watch consistently maintains. Great Watch at a Great Value
I've been looking for a watch like this for years.This watch is great.I used to have a Casio Forester.I could save up to 20 phone numbers in it.I quickly out grew it, always having to take numbers out to add new ones.Also, it didn't look very professional all blinking, flashing and stuff.I always felt a little silly wearing it in the work setting.

To start off with, my Timex Data Link 5C291 looks great!Sporty yet professional enough with the metal band.To date, I've put over 100 phone numbers in it and haven't even gotten near 50% of its memory storage.I also use it at work to download my MS Outlook schedule & contacts list.It is so simple and I have set it up to auto update whenever I connect the watch to the computer.All my co-workers schlep there PDAs around with them to do what this watch does.Of course, my timex can't do everything their PDA does but most of them never use it beyond finding phone numbers and checking their schedule.

I also love the flexibility of setting up the menus.I've customized it so that I can get the info I want fast and don't have to scroll through unwanted menus or functions.The software works well and is easy to learn and use.I'm using Windows XP at work that is connected to an office network.This is the best designed digital product I've ever purchased.This watch is a steal for the price.

Wish List
I do wish that there were a few additions.I've looked into the added 3rd party programs that can be downloaded to the watch and found them for the most part just toys.It would be nice if there were some more useful applications beyond just what Timex created.Also, the watch only works on one computer.That means either your work computer or your home computer.It can sometimes be a little of a hassle waiting to get to work to add a personal phone number.Another limiting function is when contacts are added to the watch from MS Outlook they are brought in last name first.I don't always know the last name of my contacts and it can be difficult and time consuming to find them when this is the case.That's it.Everything else is awesome.

In short, this is a great watch and well worth the money.Forget the PDA, too much of a hassle.Carry it all in your watch. ... Read more
