Essential tool for serious hiker, climber, adventure racer
I've owned the Suunto Vector for more than three years after purchasing it when I first became interested in adventure racing. While many top racers wear it, I would highly recommend it for the serious hiker, climber or backcountry skier for it's solid construction, design and versatility.

While I also wear this as my everyday watch, it's extra large size should be taken into consideration if that's something you have in mind.

There are a couple other brands available in this market segment, but the relatively low price and exceptional feature set are what continues to set this tool apart from the crowd.

Here's what you should know:
* Expect to replace the battery at least once a year. This is due to a number of reasons, one of which is the powerful backlight on the face that when activated can nearly illuminate the inside of a small tent at night. And, if you believe the manufacturer's warnings and want to play it safe, you'll have this procedure performed by a professional (watch, not outdoor) shop. At least I do.
* The altimeter is one of the strongest features, allowing you to quickly pinpoint your location on a topo map. However, plan to reset it regularly, especially after a plane ride or frequent and significant changes in altitude, or weather. This is rather easy as along as you have a confirmed location metric, but you have to remember to do it regularly to ensure the greatest accuracy. The 24-hour memory provides a total measurement of your ups and downs (ascents and descents) over that time period, a really cool record for runners, mountain bikers and skiers.
* The compass is one of the strongest in this class of devices, which to be sure isn't the greatest to begin with ... but even the serious orienteerer would be impressed. The ability to adjust for local declination is really nice.
* The barometer is good, but not great. However, if you want to be aware of potential weather changes, this will provide you with some peace of mind. Better to be safe than sorry (or worse) in this regard.
* The thermometer isn't accurate at all unless you take the watch off for an hour or so to eliminate the warming effect of your skin/body temperature.
* Some of the controls and settings are not easy to comprehend or remember. I've never been able to figure out how to use the stopwatch, timer and lap features. If you're a swimmer or triathlete and this is important to you, look to the Timex Ironman standby.
* Waterproofing is rock solid. No worries.
* The soft-rubber watchband is comfortable to wear, but will deteriorate over time, even more rapidly in chlorine. Suunto offers a much lighter nylon/velcro alternative that I personally prefer.

Overall, I really like the Vector. But for a number of reasons already mentioned, would not feel comfortable giving it a perfect 5.0 score. But consider my 4.0 more like a 4.5 ... you can't go wrong here.

Watch keeps time, never needs a battery change, is easy to read, has a calendar, an alarm, and looks cool...what more could one want?

This watch also has a "perpetual" calendar that is preset at the factory.Watch knows month length and leap year so you won't have to reset date for short months.It is a little complicated to set the date -- so it is a good thing it is preset at the factory.Best thing: I will never have to reset the date until February 28 2100 when there is no leap year!I should live so long!

The Amazon description fails to mention that this watch also has two time zones."Time" and "Local Time".Unfortunately, you can only display one time-zone at a time.To switch time zones, you need to pull the crown out, turn it slightly...and then wait.The hands will spin around to the new time, the day hand will spin around to the new day, and then the calendar will flip.This is really cool to look at and handy when you are flying from one time-zone to another.To go 15 hours from PDT to China time This whole process takes more than a minute.So it is not useful for quick lookups.This is perhaps the watch's greatest drawback.If you need a watch to simultaneously display multiple time zones, Seiko alarm chronographs or else the Bulova Millenia with 4 time zones are good alternatives.

The alarm is easy to set and works for local time as well.If you set it for 7am while in the main time zone and then switch to Local time, the alarm rings at 7am in the local time.

Citizen's "Eco-Drive" solar powered system is pre-charged at the factory.Power reserve is 180 days!!! It only takes about a Norwegian summer day of sunlight to bring the watch from empty to fully charged.The watch will also charge from normal indoor light.Citizen ships the watches fully charged from their factory.If the watch is on display at your local jeweler, it should be fully charged when you buy it.I guess that full charge is what I paid $ 100 extra for by buing at retail. ... Earrings arrived missing part
I received these earrings from SilverSpeck but one of the earrings was missing one of the silver hooks for the ear.Therefore, I was unable to wear them.I asked SilverSpeck to send me the silver hook to complete the earrings (or one replacement earring if they could not do that).Their response was that I needed to pack the earrings back up, go to the post office and mail the product back to them.I told them this was a waste of my time especially considering the problem was due to their negligence.However, they offered no alternatives to me even after I pointed this out to them.So basically, customer service is quite lacking at this company since they failed to take care of their problem.Instead, they wanted me to spend the time and expense to mail back a defective product rather than simply sending me the hook to complete the earrings.I will not order from this vendor again. ... Gold Hoops for everyday
I purchased these hoops about 6 months ago.I wear them about everyday and they are holding up wonderfully.They also survived a 10 day backpack trip to Europe while stashed in my change purse (traveled very light - little to no luggage).

Recommend for anyone who doesn't need to change earrings everyday, but likes the classic hoop on hoop look for those like me who have double and triple holes.

The description clearly states that the earrings have an inside diamater of about 25mm.For metric-phobic Americans, that translates to about 1 inch.They're also about 2mm thick, which is about 1/12th of an inch.
